Ah. It’s alive…
And it was 97% good. Had some rough moments in the three a.m. hour, but I pulled it back from the edge for the last hurrah.
Stereogum's Halloween mix.

Wish this bad-boy was up for download, but hey - tune in and drop out and freak out.
EDIT: Just had to say that Ariel Pink’s ‘Fright Night (Nevermore)’ is warming my heart like great soup.
Even though Tumblr is acting like a freak for me tonight, I must bring you this, dear listeners (viewers? whatever.) - have this track on my iTunes and liked this detour from Kickball Katy (of the Vivian Girls). But I never imagined such a wonderfully gruesome video as a companion.
Macabre humor + hazy pop = good things.
And just in time for that most unholy of holidays, too…
You know that Robert Smith/Crystal Castles thing?

Well, go get it, kids! :)
ps - I totally screwed up the first post to deal with this slice of synth-wonder. Forgive me, o gods & goddesses of music!
Another link in the Wainwright chain.

And that is not to negate Lucy Wainwright Roche, not at all.
More like an acknowledgment on my part that this family, in every incarnation, is wildly talented. If there is some kind of artistic karma, the Wainwright/Roche gene pool got the good end of the stick.
It is easy to listen to, sound-wise, very...
Tuneage: Ghouls and Ghosts and Spooks. Oh My! →
Seriously, all these awesome Halloween/Halloween-ish/dark & spooky mixes popping up are making me giddy. More giddy than a six year old who has consumed ten bags of Sugar Babies. Plus this gets me even more excited for my Halloween show at WNCW!

It’s getting close to Halloween, and you think your only musical option is “Monster Mash”, right? Wrong.

And some nice choices indeed: Lower Dens, First Aid Kit, Big Freedia and Jon Hopkins.
Was instantly drawn to Sherlock’s Daughter (for the name alone) and was pleased to find myself enjoying the repetitive nature of the track ‘Reprise’ - and that echo of sound at the 1:52 mark and how it...
10 days late...

But still, a nice cover of an excellent song. You all know that you love Heart - we all love Heart. Heart is bad-ass. And covers can go so wrong sometimes, you get hesitant to trust when you see a classic revamped.
However, I like this one. It is not a carbon-copy, but the original is there in the riffs. And it adds horns, which...
I suppose I am the only person who thinks of the Monty Python sketch about ‘The Bishop’ when this video first kicks off [lol].
But moving swiftly on, I enjoy Violens already. I am never sure what genre to put them in, because each song seems slightly different. Then again… who the hell needs genres? Why must we categorize music in such a way?
*cough* I like this track, simply...

Oh my they created a video!
Ha! This is epic and great. Yay!

I love that the donation is the pre-order cost. You help and you get something lovely in return. That’s cool. :)
Need to know about the awesome-ness that is Marissa Nadler? GVB gives you a great song of hers to check out.

And it looks to be a dandy! Grouper, Burial, Sleep Over AND Ariel Pink???
This mix is definitely my first treat. ;)

As well they should be. Their new album is in my top ten of the year - such a cool sound, somehow mellow but still with a bite.
I don’t know how they got so awesome, but am glad that they have stayed the course.
