Gorilla Vs. Bear's March Mix  →
And right on the last damn day, too. At least through my blog. ;) I know I’ll enjoy it when I can.

Family Band - Miller Path EP →
Not sure what is with me and the sad/minimal/songs that make you think of gray days. Or long nights. Or winding rain-slicked roads. But I am always open to steel-guitar and a woman at the mic - I’ll always pause and listen and imagine a million things to the sound. ‘Fantasy’ is excellent.

Ivana XL - 'Couch Surfing' →
Super-duper mellow, bordering on melancholy… but I like it. Oddly enough, it makes me happy.

I can only aspire to be as awesome as Aquarium Drunkard. Got get mixed, kids.

The Dead Weather - 'Sea of Cowards' →
If you know me, you know I am not big on one group breaking up and then new groups forming - always made up of various people from other groups and on and on and on (Broken Bells really gets up my…). But Jack White is the exception to the rule - I love all he touches, because it is all him. White Stripes, The Raconteurs and now Dead Weather: all bluesy-rock, lyrics that bite you and supreme...

Porcupine Tree - 'Drawing the Line' →
It got me with the soft introduction, vaguely dark and moody and light - but I wasn’t sure if it would hold me once the tempo got harder… Perhaps it is the day, though. The overcast skies have burned off and now the sun it breaking out everywhere… Maybe this is a perfect song for speeding up the afternoon once the slow morning slides away? You be the judge, dear listener.

Shout Out Louds - 'Too Late, Too Slow' →
What can I say? I just like this track a lot, especially as the night goes on and on and sleep is far away…

And this might be Saturday night for someone. →
Electronica marries snotty rock - like Arctic Monkeys but with synth-beats on top of guitars. Late seventies cocaine Bowie? I hear him in this new track (‘Drunk Girls’). Oh, gotta go now. Librarians are staring at me hard… Peace out.

I say free - you say yea. →
Delorean plus Angus & Julia Stone… yea, good mix this.

WatchWatch
And one last track to start your weekend off nicely - the floaty sounds of female vocalists and a toy piano. It could be annoying, but it is not. It’s like a bird singing outside your window, saying ‘hello!’.

I love it when NPR steps lightly out of the box... →
Of all the things I normally hear on NPR, dance/electronica is rarely one of them. So props to celebrating one big-ass party and a genre of music that I’ve adored since I was eight years old (red lights in my father’s work building and dancing like there was no tomorrow).

All Songs Considered Spring Preview →
Interestingly enough, I can agree on almost all points that Carrie Brownstein makes (I do like Broken Social Scene quite a bit)… MGMT is a guilty pleasure - maybe not at best, but they are a strange confection. Bring on the new cds and tunes and such! Let them bloom like buds to flowers! And I don’t even drink coffee…

Will Stratton - 'No Wonder' →
Coming to you from the public library of wonderful Saturday silence - it is absolutely freezing here today, but the sun is peeking its way out… and what better way to wake up then with some coffee-house kind of music. Yea, for this morning alone, I can dig this.

The video of space travelers matters not to me - that’s just Andre 3000’s way. But the smooth groove and the simple love lyrics… yea, that shit is meant to be sung to someone you adore. And this is how I must leave you this Tuesday - for now. Library concert is fin.

…then you need to, for real. ‘Right Hand Hi’ is beyond awesome and never fails to get my head moving, get my body to jumping, get my heart to pumping. Yea. Too bad that amazing festivals like SXSW do not showcase break-out hip-hop as much as they do those ‘goofy dudes with electric guitars’. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVAbC7vmrXE

MGMT - Congratulations →
Coming to you live from the public library - DJ Mary and her magical mystery tour! Or rather, MGMT’s new effort (and this link allows you to listen to each song on their new album, Congratulations) is coming to you live via me & NPR. Whatever. Any time I hear MGMT, I am reminded - if only by a shadow or two - of psychedelic madness… a hazy, lazy electric spin… something a...

Grizzly Bear - 'Cheerleader' →
Caught somewhere between a drug-induced mellow and an emotional lament, that’s where you find a song like this one on a Sunday like today - with the sun hiding behind the clouds and books strewn about the bed and wind cutting through the trees. Ever want to change the world through music? Yea… me, too.

The Futureheads - 'Hounds of Love' →
Hmm. That might be all I can  say about this one [lol]. I fully support any bands attempt to cover a song and put their own spin on it. And this isn’t horrible. However, I think I am so used to the Kate Bush original… and this version is just not living up. Decide for yourselves, dear listeners.

Erectus Monotone - 'Destination Unknown' →
I remember going into Hully Gully, back when Boone had a cool music store, and finding little cassettes that would have all these random 90’s bands on it and they all sounded somewhat like this group. But they were still highly enjoyable. As is this cover. Nothing can beat the original from Missing Persons, but they do a damn good job of trying.

Devine & Statton - 'Bizarre Love Triangle' →
My love for New Order knows no bounds. They’ve been the soundtrack to much of my creative life and, to some degree, my personal life. And so they can do no wrong in my book. Perhaps it is wrong to say, but I’ll always go this direction as opposed towards Joy Division. Just the way I am wired. This cover is so wonderfully stripped down and still keeps the correct tone of the original -...

The Postal Service - 'Against All Odds' →
I like Phil Collins. I really do. Maybe admitting that makes my super-coolness points drop, but I’ll take that hit willingly. He writes good songs - all that post-Genesis mainstream sorrow appeals to me. And the occasional ‘Sussudio’ randomness is okay, too. Do I love this cover? Not particularly. I almost find this use of synth a distraction instead of an asset. But Ben...

Lissie - 'Little Lovin'' →
I could say that it is the glasses and the over-sized flannel shirt that makes this so damn good - but that would be a lie (at least 95% lie…). Her voice is as good as molasses and butter, uneven lines that make the whole picture all the more gorgeous and real. Someone compared her to Neko Case and I do not see that at all… and that is not a negative thing. More Emmylou Harris with...
