Metric - 'Eclipse (All Yours)' or better known as... →
I am just a broken record now. Meh.
Still. Metric is rarely wrong. Just wish it was on some other album.
Nice remix here. And I think I am finally getting excited about new Scissor Sisters music.
M83 - 'Black Hole' →
Cheers to SG for letting us all know about this one.
M83 does not always hit the mark for me (however, I do love Saturdays = Youth as much as a fat kid loves cake), but I am more apt to sit down and listen to ambient/electronic stuff than I am most other genres.
Do I like this track? Sure. In a way. If I don’t imagine it attached to the film it is composed for. Within the context of the...
Memoryhouse remixes Light Pollution's 'Good... →
And does that sublime thing like the champs they are. Damn. So good. I love this chillwave movement.
The Lady Gaga/Ace Of Base connection. →
But, of course, there is no such thing as original - not really. Just differing forms of the same thing.
However, if I can dance to it, I don’t really care.
Great remix of Robyn's 'Don't Fucking Tell Me What... →
Byrne Does Gabriel. →
I agree with Stereogum here - it’s almost a fated match to put David Byrne with this track.
With the exception of ‘Born Free’, I am just not sure how I feel about M.I.A’s new tracks. On the one hand, an artist has to change and evolve… so I guess this is the path she is on, musically.
But there was something in ‘Galang’ and ‘Bucky Done Gun’ and ‘Paper Planes’ and ‘Boyz’ that I am just not feeling in these new songs...
Another LCD Soundsystem track getting remixed. →
And it is a good one indeed. I knew I was a fan of Holy Ghost! for a reason. ;)
Happy Hollows - 'Foxhole' →
Ooh, a Television cover? Nice. And I like the sound of this band, too. Of course, I have a sneaking suspicion that I own a song by Happy Hollows… Ah well, another mystery to solve.
It does make me wonder if Television covers truly work, though. I mean, I love ‘Marquee Moon’ a lot… but if someone else did it? I think it might turn me off.
Okay. This. This is why I love music - how it moves us, how it impacts us, how it finds some little corner of our soul and lodges itself there. And all those lyrics that you never forget. And all those beats that always make you dance. And all the ways that a song can sum up your life.
When you are in that with thousands of other people, the feeling is overwhelming. And liberating. And you are,...
Washed Out = a man you should know and love.
Manual - 'Summer Haze' →
From what I consider to be his best album, Lost Days Open Skies And Streaming Tides.
Now drift on outta here, kids….
Manual - 'Summer Of Freedom' →
Not only an apt title for the season we find ourselves in, but I am listening to Echoes and the ambient spirit is high this evening.
I first heard Manual on Echoes, two years ago. And I am so enamored by his music. It is the soundtrack to all my dreams. Pure electronic genius.
The Huxtable Family Does Ray Charles. →
I have not seen this in forever. But I am damn glad I saw it today. What a treat!
Dylan LeBlanc - 'If Time Was For Wasting' →
It hits some spot I didn’t know I had - a craving for smooth slide-guitar and country-like lyrics…
It’s Friday up here in the sticks, kids. I might need to sit a spell.
NPR chooses their favorite summer dance tracks. →
And I totally agree with most of them - especially Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ and Gramophonedzie’s ‘Brazilian’ (damn hot song there!).
How about you? What is making you move this sizzling summer?
Patrick Watson - 'Sit Down Beside Me' →
Ever read about something and think to yourself… ‘Nope. Probably not going to like this.’
And then you are happily surprised to find that you do like whatever it is.
Yep, that’s me with this song.
I like the lazy way this track rolls, beautiful and slightly somber. Very nice indeed.
Tegan And Sara covering Steel Train. →
Love them. Love their take of this track even more.
ps - is anyone else having trouble downloading tracks from Stereogum? Le sigh……..
