Holst - III. Intermezzo: Andante con moto, IV. Finale (The Dargason): Allegro  (from St. Paul’s Suite [Op. 29, no. 2])

So, I woke up to this piece of music this morning and it was such a blast from the past.

There was a small window of time, around the age of 11, where all I listened to was classical music. And I would keep my ugly yellow boom-box on all night long, trained onto one station (WDAV). To make sure I would not miss anything amazing, I would pop in a cassette tape and let it record until there was no room left. Then, the next day, I would listen to what I got and decide if it was good enough to keep.

This was one of the pieces I managed to record as a much younger me lay sleeping - and this is one of the cassette tapes that I kept (and probably still have, packed away somewhere).

And even today, as the sublime strains of the viola pulled me from dreaming, I was transported to a wonderful memory - of listening to music as shadows painted the walls of my childhood home and of creating a million worlds within my active imagination.

All thanks to music just like this.
