Deftones - Change (In the House of Flies)

Been talking to a fellow music lover (accol) about metal - then & now, what is & what isn’t… And so I started thinking about what I consider to be ‘metal’ (and all variations of said genre).

I am finding that my idea of ‘metal’ does have some common factors - even if those factors come in vastly different packages. And the most common denominator is a particular sound. I am not even sure how to explain it to you, Tumblr-folk…

It’s slightly ominous, slightly raw. It is unsettling even as it is liberating.

I suppose, for my money, what I like in metal music is the feeling of losing some kind of control - and that’s what every song that I consider to be ‘metal’ has in it.
