Freaking me out & making me grin wildly at the same time, this track needs to be a part of my ever-growing Halloween-related music collection.
Mater Suspiria Vision // Paracusia
I think it’s pretty much safe to say that the witch house craze is over. Looking back it’s probably easy to write the whole e-phenomenon off as a internet wide momentary lapse of judgment, but I still maintain that drag gave us some quality music (Balam Acab anoyone?). One of those said acts is Mater Suspiria Vision, a still anonymous project that was there from the beginning. With the release of the new LP Paracusia, Mater Suspiria Vision continues to develop the consistent imagery and Argento-themed mythology that has drawn me to the project from the beginning.
I think what excites me most about this new album is that I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with it free from any tags or comparisons. On top of that, Paracusia really grabs hold of Suspiria, the project’s namesake as well as one of my all-time favorite horror films, and weaves it into its every fiber. Sampling both Goblin as well as the film’s audio and even naming a track “Suspiria,” this album bleeds the same vibrant, paint-like blood that is spilled all over the frames of the Italian classic. This helps Paracusia to become a sort of concept album that looks to horror cinema for its scares rather than cliché (and somewhat corny) occultic imagery. It’s out now on Phantasma Disques. Ian like. Ian like very much.
