Kurt Vile - In My Time

I must have been higher than a damn kite to forget this amazing song on my ‘Best Of’ list… and, really, the whole of Smoke Ring For My Halo is stunningly good, too.

So I shall place myself before the music gods & await my punishment for letting this talented soul slip through my list-making fingers.

‘Best Of’ all the way, kids.

Le Trio Joubran - Nawwar

When music is this good, liking it is like breathing - oh so easy to do.

Fantastic.

Smoke Fairies - Hotel Room

Evocative, old-school-folk-like UK blues? Yeah, maybe that’s it… I don’t fully know where to put them, but I damn well know that I like them.

Through Low Light And Trees was officially released here in the States in June of this year & it has been a welcomed addition to my music library.

Woods - Any Other Day

A comment on YouTube pretty much sums up my feelings whenever I listen to this song:

Am I having a flashback to 1967?….yes I am!

Totally agree in all the best ways.

Ms. Dynamite - Neva Soft

While her third studio album will not be hitting shelves until an undetermined date in 2012, this single was dropped in August of this year - to which I say ‘yay!’

Still as sharp as ever with her lyrics & flow, very glad to see this artist returning to the forefront.

‘Best Of’.

Mayer Hawthorne - A Long Time

Ain’t nobody got moves like that anymore…  ;)

Anyway. I dig on soul/R&B music, but it is usually of the ‘old’ variety - not so much the new. But this track is smooth - like butter - and such a jam.

You gotta love it.

‘Best Of’.

The Antlers - Corsicana

There is something so haunting about this song, as if it were the end of the world and there are only seconds left…

It’s beautiful.

Total Slacker - Thyme Traveling High School Dropout

It’s nothing revolutionary. And I can agree that a whole album of random references paired up with some fuzzed-out guitars might not be worth multiple replays (P4 opinion)… But this song right here?

I play it more often than I don’t.

Because sometimes heavy thinking is not what I am in the mood for.

‘Best Of’.

Matt Pond PA - Love To Get Used

I’ve always been a bit of a fan of Matt Pond PA, from way back in my early internet days (when I didn’t have an iPod, didn’t know about blogs and would stumble into music like a lost tourist).

He’s got this sound that I cannot identify with regular genre-labels. All I know is that when I hear his voice & his particular sound, I remember hours upon hours of work out in the hot sun with a billion burned cds in my truck - and I suppose the passing of time does this… but I recall those days with fondness.

He’s got a true-blue WNCW vibe. And I’ll always love that vibe.

Lia Ices - New Myth

One of the most underrated releases of the year, Grown Unknown is a masterpiece of avant-pop (sweeping music & ethereal vocals & like a fairy tale spinning out in your ears).

‘Best Of’.
